About Us

The Terms of Reference for the Strategic Review of Parading were announced in February 2007 and the appointments to the Review Body made in April 2007. The Body held its first meeting in May 2007 and details of our members can be found here.

We placed advertisements in the local media in June 2007, inviting anyone who wished to make representations to us to register an interest. We had a very encouraging response and have since met hundreds of organisations and individuals from all parts of the community in Northern Ireland. The Review Body would like to thank everyone that we have met both for their contribution and the spirit in which they gave of their time.

Throughout our deliberations, everybody has emphasised the need for respect, toleration and transparency and as part of that transparency and openness, we have followed a policy of seeking the widest possible consultation from key stakeholders and others.

We published our Interim Consultative Report in April 2008.

We were asked to consider whether there are new or additional approaches which can be applied to parading and to offer recommendations that have the potential to lead to a settled cross community view of this sensitive issue. The interim report represented our provisional findings.

We understand that it will not be a quick fix and that to be effective the review must reflect the views of people across the community.
